BREC hiking trails

June 10, 2017

Living in Baton Rouge, we have a wealth of parks to enjoy. Take a look at all of the parks and conservation areas we have in East Baton Rouge Parish, and you will have an appreciation for all that BREC does.

There are several hiking trails just minutes from anywhere in the city, but because BREC does not list their hiking trails separately on their website, I can only refer to the trails I know. I count six hiking trails within the Baton Rouge metropolitan area.

  1. Hooper Road Park

  2. Blackwater Conservation Area

  3. Comite River Park

  4. Frenchtown Conservation Area

  5. Kendalwood Road Conservation Area

  6. Bluebonnet Swamp

As I write this post I am contacting BREC to see what other parks have hiking trails.

Recently the Louisiana Hiking Club (of which I am a member) helped to build the Kendalwood Road Conservation Area trail. It's a 1.3 mile loop trail that is great for anyone living in South Baton Rouge who is looking to enjoy a nature walk. This area is close to Bayou Manchac so be prepared for some wet conditions.

I hope to have more information about all of the trails that BREC has, and I am working on a new video project that will incorporate all of these trails.

Stay tuned!

I really enjoy the unique hiking and backpacking opportunities that Louisiana has to offer. I have collected information on many trails in Louisiana and put them together so others can enjoy them as well.
